it's been a while..

Fri Jan 6, 2006, 2:01 AM
after almost two years, this is only the second time that i will write something on my DA journal, the last one was the lyrics of one of the most nonsense songs that i appreciate. Nonsense because it's cheesy, and i appreciate it because it's a feel good song.
i have lost the drive to create animations. it has almost been a year since i created something significant. my indolence may be the cause of my lack of productivity. indolence that is the result of my passive pastime, which is reading. this brings me to the subject i want to write, reading.

Reading is an activity that deteriorates your creativity. In the reading process, you are only the reciever of the thoughts of others. Creative activity is not really part of reading unless it is a book that requires the use of your imagination. What they commonly say when you're reading is that it takes you to another world. True, if you are imaginative enough, you can let a book take you away. This does not mean that you must create your own world, you only go inside the world the author created for you.

still, i can't deny the pragmatic essence of reading, which is the sharing of the thoughts of the author to the reader. when we read other people's thoughts, we are able to verify if what we think is also right, or has sense. reading teaches us humility because it teaches us that we don't have the monopoly of truths. an example is that i've learned the danger of over-reading by reading Schopenhauer.

thus, reading is still useful, just don't concentrate on just being an audience. learn from what you read, verify your subjective truths from others. you won't enjoy a basketball game just by being a good watcher of the game, you must participate in the game.

so, to put it simply, learn to write goddamnit! i impose this on myself.

i'm only talking to myself.
i think nobody will read this anyway.

morning has broken ni cat stevens

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

why so nice?..

why is it that all comments on deviantart is positive and nice?
it's not helping the artist being commented because they might be something wrong in his/her work which he/she does not realize.
the watcher's job is to constructively criticize the work.
constructive criticism will help the artist improve his/her work!
what's with all these hypocrisy?
i know, people on DA comment nicely to other artists so that the comments on their works would also reciprocate nicely.

as for me, criticize my work however you like it. even if you cannot do what i can do, it's still ok. i know i lack in some artistic skills that i can improve upon if i am able to recognize this skills. the best way to recognize this lacking skills is through the viewers' detections of my frailties.
